OZEV Grants: Updates and Guidelines for EV Home Charging Scheme
From 1st April 2022, the EV chargepoint grant for homeowners will no longer be available to those who live in private houses. However, the scheme will remain open to homeowners who live in flats or people in rental accommodation (flats and single-use properties). It will also offer support to owners of apartment blocks.
For owners of apartment blocks there is a very generous offering from OZEV, which, subject to terms and conditions, allows a maximum of 200 charger grants @£350.00 (£70,000). These can be used on single sites or multiple properties from each organisation or owner.
The new OZEV grant scheme will run on a digital service via a new platform rather than the old paper based scheme. The grant is only for retrofit (existing) properties; it cannot be used for new-builds or properties that are not occupied.
The EV charger grants will allow up to £350.00 for the supply and installation of each charge point. Every charge point must have its own private parking slot.

For single applications, the customer must be resident at the property. This will be checked via the vehicle registration details.
Where the link between the customer and the property is unclear, additional supporting evidence may be required (for example, a utility bill).
Any necessary third-party permissions (such as from a freeholder or managing agent of a block of flats) must be obtained by the customer before an installation occurs. This will be needed for rented or leasehold properties where it’s the renter or the leaseholder applying for the EV charger grants.
Where an installation requires cabling or other parts of the installation to be placed in or on another person’s property, or public land, access rights and permissions must be agreed by all parties using legally binding arrangements, such as legal covenants, before an installation begins. Once you have completed a successful application you will be given a digital voucher worth £350.00 which can be redeemed against the cost of the charger installation carried out by Elite Vehicle Chargers.
Only OZEV-approved installers can redeem these vouchers, and they in turn will complete the details of the installation once they are complete on the OZEV portal.
There is no requirement to inform OZEV if you are moving a charge point to a new house or if you move house. The customer’s chosen installer Elite Vehicle Chargers will claim on behalf of the customer.
To enable a claim to be made, the customer must complete a customer declaration on the EVHS installation form. The customer must confirm that the details provided are correct.

What’s the benefit for me as a business owner if we install EV car chargers?
By comparison to Petrol and Diesel cars, work place EV charging works out much cheaper to fuel a car. On average, the savings depending on the EV car are at least 50% less than fossil fuels. “We even run an EV van fleet ourselves and on average we save £200.00 a month on diesel costs alone for each van”. It’s incredible. We also avoid Vehicle Tax, Congestion Charge Fees and ULEZ fees for travel into London.
Business’s that have an EV charging facility will attract customers and at the same time they stay will longer on site, especially in the retail sector thus providing many more sales opportunities.
Workplace charging facilities will help attract and retain staff who drive EV cars.
Increase sustainability by drastically reducing C02 emissions
Providing EV company cars to your employees will reduce their Benefit in Kind taxes (BIK)
